USAGE:

(1.) Few и a few сочетаются только с исчисляемыми существительными во множественном числе: there were a few people waiting for him его ждали несколько человек; few people voted for the candidate за этого кандидата голосовало мало людей/мало кто голосовал за этого кандидата. При использовании неисчисляемых существительных значение небольшого, недостаточного количества передается прилагательным little и a little: to have very little money иметь очень мало денег, ср. to have a little money иметь немного денег. (2.) В английской сравнительной конструкции с количественным определением исчисляемых существительных, которая соответствует русской конструкции на три книги (пять книг и т. д.) меньше, fewer не употребляется. Вместо него употребляется less, которое стоит после определяемого существительного: he returned three books less он вернул на три книги меньше (но he returned fewer books to the library он вернул в библиотеку меньшн книг, чем взял). (3.)
